Wild Style, Real Talk: Why We Put Wombats on Bags and Devils on Hoodies

Wild Style, Real Talk: Why We Put Wombats on Bags and Devils on Hoodies

Let’s get one thing straight: we’re not making fun of wildlife. We’re making it unforgettable.

Sure, some might clutch their pearls and say we’re capitalising on Aussie animals. But here’s a hard truth most people don’t know:

Wildlife rehabilitation in Australia is 100% voluntary. That means no wage, no super, no free fuel, no time off. Most carers spend thousands—sometimes tens of thousands—every single year just trying to keep up. That’s formula, vet bills, enclosures, sleepless nights, and enough tissues to mop up the heartbreak of every lost joey or release day goodbye. Not to mention government compliance and organisational requirements!

And where does a majority of these animals come from? Roads. Casualties of careless or avoidable driving. Hit-and-runs on lives that never had a chance to grow old.

So yeah, we’re putting a wombat in a jiu-jitsu gi. Or a devil on a tote. And we’re not sorry.

Because what we’ve learned over the years of raising orphans, building safe havens, and working with wildlife orgs is this: bandaids aren’t enough. Awareness is the long game. And sometimes, awareness needs a side of humour and a touch of wild style to break through the noise.

When someone walks into a dojo sipping from a platypus omoplata mug, people ask questions. When someone’s grocery bag has a wallaby mid-kick, people take notice. When someone chuckles at a possum with attitude or a croc deadlifting, the conversation has already started.

That’s how we plant seeds. That’s how we sneak wildlife into minds and hearts that might otherwise never think twice.

Australia has one of the highest extinction rates on the planet. Every single species matters. Every creature is unique, with quirks and personalities rehabilitators know well—but the public rarely gets to see.

We want to change that.

Our gear isn’t just fun. It’s functional, wearable advocacy. It’s a way to take your love for Aussie wildlife into the streets, the gym, the school pickup line, or the cafe.

So go ahead. Be loud. Be cheeky. Be bold. Because our animals can’t speak for themselves. But your hoodie, your mug, your tote? Now that’s a voice.

Wear it. Share it. Start something.
